I'm Lee Perryman.
Who am I? Simply put: I am a native of Sylacauga with a heart to give back to my hometown.
Thank you for taking time to find out more about me. I’m running for reelection to City Council, District 4, and my objective is simple: to work on behalf of the people of Sylacauga and continue to help the city maximize its potential.
I was first elected in 2016, and it has been an honor and privilege to serve. I had not intended to run again but have been convinced by friends and neighbors that my perspective, knowledge, history, integrity, and focus on following the law are perhaps more important than ever. In fact, I am the only city council member -- at least in the last nine years and surely longer -- to have never missed a council meeting.
People who know me know that I’ve been pro-Sylacauga all my life. My family first settled in the area in 1838, first in Fayetteville where my great-grandfather was a farmer and veterinarian and my father, and his parents, were born. My grand-uncle was Sylacauga’s Chief of Police from 1910-1914; my dad retired as Administrator of Sylacauga Hospital in 1987, after 30 years of service; my mom taught at Sylacauga High School and retired in 1982 after 30-plus years; my sister is still here and retired after more than 41 years with a local law firm.

I started my career in local radio at age 16, graduated from Sylacauga High School in 1975, attended what is now Central Alabama Community College, and graduated from The University of Alabama in 1979. After more than 35 years with broadcast division of The Associated Press, headquartered in Washington, I returned to Alabama full-time at the end of 2015. Many people here and around the world thought I never really left, since I was back quite frequently, continued to invest, and frequently traveled the world with small chunks of souvenir marble. Today, I have proudly built and expanded RadioAlabama, a group of 13 radio station brands plus digital news/sports sites and two magazines serving east central Alabama from Sylacauga.
Over the past nine years, I have served in various roles – as city council president from 2016-2022, as a member of the Planning Commission, and as liaison to the Sylacauga Healthcare Authority, the Industrial Development Board, the Airport Authority, the Comer Museum & Arts Center, the Fire Department, the Building Services Department, and the Civil Service Board.
I consider it my duty to give back to Sylacauga.
